Sol-O: The Madness of the Ocean – An Invitation to Confront the Infinite
In a remote corner of Uruguay, Oceania del polonio, where the sea meets the sky in an endless horizon, lies Sol-O, an artistic residency designed to invite artists to confront the vastness of the ocean and, above all, themselves. Here, in facing the immense power of the ocean, artists explore the primal bond between humanity and nature, immersing themselves in an experience that redefines their perception of the world and their inner being.
About Sol-O: A Solitary Dialogue of the Artist with the Ocean
The ocean has always captivated humanity: a symbol of discovery, mystery, and wonder. At Sol-O, artists do not merely observe the ocean; they engage in a dialogue with it. Here, the ocean is not just a backdrop but a silent companion that helps artists explore what unites and divides them from the wild, the primal, and the elemental.
Why Solitude? Transformation Through Isolation
Solitude at Sol-O is not isolation; it is an intentional space where distractions fall away, leaving only the essential. Being alone in the face of such vastness does not offer escape from thoughts and emotions; rather, it opens a space for artists to encounter their inner selves. Here, time moves with the rhythm of the waves and the wind, allowing each artist to forge a deeper connection with their inner life and creativity.
Creating in the Embrace of the Ocean
Artistic creation at Escena Oceanica is shaped by the tides, the winds, and the silent power of the ocean itself. For many, the unpredictable rhythms of the ocean become a metaphor for creative flow. This residency is an invitation to work not only within oneself but in resonance with nature, where the act of creation feels as timeless as the waves returning, day after day, to the shore.
Accommodation and Costs
The residency will take place at Gris Polono, an artist house situated in the dunes, just 150 meters from the ocean. The artist will have a private room equipped with a bathroom and a kitchen, providing a comfortable and personal space to live and create. All accommodation and food costs are covered by the residency.
However, artists are responsible for their own travel expenses and for acquiring the materials needed for their projects. Additionally, all artists are required to have valid health insurance during their stay at the residency. This ensures that every participant is protected in case of medical emergencies.
Contribution to the Residency Archive
As part of the residency experience, each artist will contribute a portion of their project to the Escena Oceanica Archive. This will serve as a resource for future publications and exhibitions, ensuring that the impact of their work continues to inspire others and foster a creative legacy.
